Hello!
My name is Manel van Nieuwland (1992) and I’m a freelance journalist specialized in India. I knew I wanted to become a journalist when I was ten years old. A few years later I read a book about India which fascinated me so much that I decided to go there. That was more than ten years ago and I keep going back.

I decided to study Indian Languages and Cultures at the University of Ghent for one year. During this time I learned some Hindi and Sanskrit. Then I decided to do my bachelor of journalism in Utrecht.
I am mostly interested in human interest stories and topics involving emancipation, human rights and sustainability. I want to tell stories of people from all over the world, because I think this will create more understanding and tolerance towards each other.
